Can I Run VRChat?
VRChat is an adventure casual game from VRChat Inc., released in 2017. VRChat Inc. both developed and published it. It offers cooperative play. The game ships for Windows alone. Full controller support is present, so nothing needs configuring before a pad works. Steam lists support for 11 languages. Entry is free, which makes the disk requirement the only real barrier. With only 147 reviews on Steam, there is little community data on how it behaves across hardware. Its 9 years mean the stated figures describe machines that were current then, not now.

Setting and environment
The game is set in an anime styled world. Play is structured around one continuous open world. 8 storefront images show what the game actually looks like in motion. Open environments are the harder case for a PC, and VRChat has to keep far more of its world resident and streaming than a level based game needs. Play is presented from a first person view.
Why VRChat is demanding
VRChat is undemanding on the graphics side. Its NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or greater target sits well below our RTX 3060 reference, so most cards still in service clear VRChat. System memory expectations are modest at 4 GB. Disk footprint is light, near 1 GB.
This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.
Can you run VRChat?
Older hardware holds up here: VRChat runs on modest graphics, with NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater enough to meet the minimum. Add 4 GB of RAM and a mid-range CPU and a PC several years old will play it fine.
Bottleneck: GPU
Projected by resolution
| Resolution | Projection | Headroom |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | Comfortable | 2.58x |
| 1440p | Runs well | 1.45x |
| 4K | Below the bar | 0.64x |
A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.

Each card is compared against VRChat's published GPU requirement, assuming an otherwise-capable PC. Laptop rows use the real mobile chip's benchmark, a mobile GPU is always slower than its desktop namesake.
