Can I Run Railroads Online?
Released in 2024, Railroads Online is an indie simulation game built by Stefan Kelnberger. Publishing duties went to astragon Entertainment. The game supports a single player campaign and cooperative play. The game ships for Windows alone. Completionists have 32 achievements to work through. It is localised into 12 languages according to the store listing. Its Steam review count passes 5 thousand, a large enough sample that odd hardware behaviour would be known by now.

Setting and environment
Railroads Online places its action in an open sandbox, and the player works through one continuous open world. The view is from a first person view. 8 storefront images show what the game actually looks like in motion. Open environments are the harder case for a PC, and Railroads Online has to keep far more of its world resident and streaming than a level based game needs.
Why Railroads Online is demanding
Railroads Online asks a lot of the graphics card. It targets NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800, which our tables put above the RTX 3060, so Railroads Online tends to define the machine you build rather than fit around one you own. Disk footprint is light, near 6 GB. DirectX 12 is named, so Railroads Online expects a graphics driver and card from the modern era rather than merely a fast one. Windows 11 appears in the requirements, which is worth checking before buying Railroads Online. The distance between minimum and recommended is wide, so Railroads Online at the floor and Railroads Online at the recommended tier are not the same experience. At 8 GB, system memory is undemanding. Railroads Online asks for 8 GB of video memory, so VRAM capacity matters here as much as speed.
This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.
Can you run Railroads Online?
Railroads Online is one of the more demanding games on PC. To reach its recommended tier you'll want a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 with 8 GB VRAM or more-class graphics card, with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (2 GB VRAM) / AMD Radeon R9 285 (2 GB VRAM) the floor just to launch at minimum settings. Plan for a recent high-end GPU rather than a mainstream one.
Bottleneck: GPU
Projected by resolution
| Resolution | Projection | Headroom |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | Below the bar | 0.77x |
| 1440p | Below the bar | 0.43x |
| 4K | Below the bar | 0.19x |
A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.

Each card is compared against Railroads Online's published GPU requirement, assuming an otherwise-capable PC. Laptop rows use the real mobile chip's benchmark, a mobile GPU is always slower than its desktop namesake.
