Can I Run Planet Zoo?
Released in 2019, Planet Zoo is a casual simulation game built by Frontier Developments. The game supports a single player campaign. Being 7 years old, it was built for the hardware of its day, so a current machine usually has headroom over the published figures. Steam Workshop support means community content is part of the picture, and a heavy mod load can push the real requirements past anything the publisher lists. Completionists have 38 achievements to work through. 18 languages are covered by the store listing. Cloud saves are enabled. Over 80 thousand players have left a Steam review, so this is a title whose performance is widely reported. It is a Windows title, so the requirements below are the Windows ones. Critics scored it 81 on Metacritic.

Setting and environment
The game is set in an open sandbox. Play is structured around systems the player balances from above. The load here grows with the save. An empty map tells you very little about how the machine will cope once the build is large. There are 26 official screenshots to judge the look from.
Why Planet Zoo is demanding
Very little is asked of the GPU by Planet Zoo. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 ( scores low against the RTX 3060, putting Planet Zoo within reach of laptop and integrated graphics. Planet Zoo expects 16 GB of system memory. Planet Zoo asks for 8 GB of video memory, so VRAM capacity matters here as much as speed. Planet Zoo takes about 16 GB of disk space. Planet Zoo needs 64 bit Windows. The distance between minimum and recommended is wide, so Planet Zoo at the floor and Planet Zoo at the recommended tier are not the same experience.
This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.
Can you run Planet Zoo?
Planet Zoo is light on hardware. Its minimum, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 (2GB) / AMD Radeon R9 270X (2GB), 8 GB RAM, about 16 GB free, sits below what an entry-level PC ships with today, so nearly any modern machine, and many older ones, will run it.
Bottleneck: GPU
Projected by resolution
| Resolution | Projection | Headroom |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | Comfortable | 1.89x |
| 1440p | Borderline | 1.06x |
| 4K | Below the bar | 0.47x |
A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.

Each card is compared against Planet Zoo's published GPU requirement, assuming an otherwise-capable PC. Laptop rows use the real mobile chip's benchmark, a mobile GPU is always slower than its desktop namesake.
