Can I Run Outer Wilds?
Outer Wilds is an action adventure game from Mobius Digital, released in 2020. Annapurna Interactive published it. The game supports a single player campaign. Progress follows the account through Steam Cloud rather than sitting on one disk. The game ships for Windows alone. A gamepad works without remapping, since controller support is complete. There are 31 achievements to chase. Steam lists support for 13 languages. With more than 87 thousand player reviews on Steam, its behaviour on real hardware is well documented. Its 6 years mean the stated figures describe machines that were current then, not now. Critics scored it 85 on Metacritic.

Setting and environment
Players spend their time in space and the vessels that cross it, moving through spaces built for exploration. Continuous worlds put sustained pressure on memory and storage, and Outer Wilds can never assume the player will stop and let it load. There are 5 official screenshots to judge the look from. The view is from a first person view.
Why Outer Wilds is demanding
Very little is asked of the GPU by Outer Wilds. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 | AMD Radeon RX 580 scores low against the RTX 3060, putting Outer Wilds within reach of laptop and integrated graphics. Outer Wilds takes about 8 GB of disk space. Outer Wilds needs only 2 GB of video memory. At 8 GB, system memory is undemanding.
This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.
Can you run Outer Wilds?
Outer Wilds targets a mainstream modern PC: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660, 2 GB | AMD Radeon HD 7870, 2 GB and 6 GB of RAM for the minimum, stepping up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 | AMD Radeon RX 580 for the recommended experience. No single part dominates the requirements, so a balanced mid-range build clears it.
Bottleneck: GPU
Projected by resolution
| Resolution | Projection | Headroom |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | Comfortable | 1.89x |
| 1440p | Borderline | 1.06x |
| 4K | Below the bar | 0.47x |
A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.

Each card is compared against Outer Wilds's published GPU requirement, assuming an otherwise-capable PC. Laptop rows use the real mobile chip's benchmark, a mobile GPU is always slower than its desktop namesake.
