Can I Run Mad Max?

Mad Max is an action adventure game from Avalanche Studios, released in 2015. Warner Bros. Games published it. The game supports a single player campaign. Being over ten years old, its ceiling was set by the hardware of a different era. Steam gates it behind an age check at 17. Progress follows the account through Steam Cloud rather than sitting on one disk. Critics scored it 73 on Metacritic. Over 57 thousand players have left a Steam review, so this is a title whose performance is widely reported. It is a Windows title, so the requirements below are the Windows ones. Completionists have 49 achievements to work through. A gamepad works without remapping, since controller support is complete. Steam lists support for 9 languages.

Setting and environment

Players spend their time in a world after its collapse, moving through one continuous open world. Continuous worlds put sustained pressure on memory and storage, and Mad Max can never assume the player will stop and let it load. It is played from a third person view. 6 storefront images show what the game actually looks like in motion.

Why Mad Max is demanding

Very little is asked of the GPU by Mad Max. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 ( scores low against the RTX 3060, putting Mad Max within reach of laptop and integrated graphics. At 3 GB, VRAM is a non issue for Mad Max. Mad Max needs 64 bit Windows. Disk footprint is light, near 32 GB. Mad Max needs only 8 GB of RAM.

This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.

Can you run Mad Max?

100%
Can run iton a typical modern PC (Ryzen 5 5600, RTX 3060, 16 GB RAM), the graphics card is the tightest fit.

Mad Max targets a mainstream modern PC: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660ti (2 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB Memory or higher) and 6 GB of RAM for the minimum, stepping up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (3 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (3 GB Memory or higher) for the recommended experience. No single part dominates the requirements, so a balanced mid-range build clears it.

Projected by resolution

ResolutionProjectionHeadroom
1080pComfortable3.95x
1440pComfortable2.22x
4KBorderline0.99x

A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.
