Can I Run Coaster?
Coaster is a simulation strategy game from Frontier Developments, released in 2024. Frontier Developments both developed and published it. It offers a single player campaign. There are 36 achievements to chase. The game ships for Windows alone. Over 12 thousand players have left a Steam review, so this is a title whose performance is widely reported. Its Metacritic score stands at 76. Steam lists support for 13 languages. A gamepad works without remapping, since controller support is complete. Cloud saves are enabled.

Setting and environment
Coaster places its action in an open sandbox, and the player works through a city the player lays out. 18 storefront images show what the game actually looks like in motion. The load here grows with the save. An empty map tells you very little about how the machine will cope once the build is large. It is played in three dimensions.
Why Coaster is demanding
The ask Coaster makes is moderate. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super ( lands near our RTX 3060 reference, so a typical gaming PC is the right yardstick. The install is small at roughly 25 GB, on an SSD. Coaster needs 64 bit Windows. The distance between minimum and recommended is wide, so Coaster at the floor and Coaster at the recommended tier are not the same experience. Coaster calls for DirectX 12, which rules out otherwise capable hardware that never got the feature level. Coaster asks for 8 GB of video memory, so VRAM capacity matters here as much as speed. 16 GB of system memory is expected, the current mainstream figure.
This reading comes from the published requirements and our own benchmark tables, not from the store listing.
Can you run Coaster?
Coaster is memory-hungry: it wants 16 GB of system RAM, above the 8 GB many machines still ship with. Graphically it is undemanding, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB VRAM) / AMD Radeon RX 5600XT (6GB VRAM) / Intel Arc A750 (8GB VRAM) clears the minimum, so more RAM, not a new GPU, is the upgrade most players need.
Bottleneck: GPU
Projected by resolution
| Resolution | Projection | Headroom |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | Borderline | 0.94x |
| 1440p | Below the bar | 0.53x |
| 4K | Below the bar | 0.24x |
A projection, not a measurement. We scale the published GPU requirement by pixel count, since 1440p draws 1.78 times the pixels of 1080p and 4K draws 4 times as many, then compare against RTX 3060 / Ryzen 5 build. The publisher did not state a target resolution, so 1080p is assumed as the baseline. We hold no frame rate data, so no FPS figure is claimed. Headroom above 1 means the reference machine has room to spare at that resolution.

Each card is compared against Coaster's published GPU requirement, assuming an otherwise-capable PC. Laptop rows use the real mobile chip's benchmark, a mobile GPU is always slower than its desktop namesake.
