The Honest Way to Check a Game Before You Buy It

I bought a game on a Friday night because a friend would not stop talking about it. The store page looked fine. I paid, I downloaded forty gigabytes, I made a snack. Then I hit play.

It ran like a slideshow. The menus were smooth, which fooled me for a minute. But the moment I walked into the first real area, the frame rate fell through the floor. Every turn stuttered. Every fight felt like moving through mud. I lowered settings. It got a little better and still felt wrong.

So when you read a store page, ask which promise you actually want. If you just want to see the game move, minimum might be enough. If you want it to feel like the trailer, you are shopping at the recommended tier or above.

The Mistake That Fools Almost Everyone

People check their CPU against the minimum list, feel relieved, then check their GPU against the recommended list, feel relieved again, and buy. Or they do it the other way. They mix the tiers without noticing.

A PC is a team. The game only runs as well as the weakest player on the field.

So you compare every component on the list. Not one. All of them.

What 'Or Better' Really Means

Requirement lists almost always name a specific CPU or GPU and add the words 'or better' after it. That phrase does a lot of quiet work.

It is not pointing at one exact chip. It is pointing at a performance level. The named part is just a marker on the ladder. Your job is to figure out whether your part climbs to that same rung.

That is hard to eyeball. Chip names are a mess of numbers and letters that do not line up in any obvious order. A newer sounding name can be slower than an older flagship.
